Purpose of a Music Promo

A music video is mainly used to advertise the single that the music video is for. By having a music video the single can become more popular mainly through online social websites such as Youtube and Vimeo. Many mainstream artists now have their music videos featured on Vevo. Vevo is a music video website who also show their videos mainly through Youtube. Vevo music videos get some of the highest amount of views of any Youtube video and they are regular shown on the home screen of Youtube, allowing most people that go on the Youtube site to be able to see the music video, making it available to see from a very broad audience, to gain more popularity for the song.

For smaller artists/bands, by making a music video this has sometimes greatly improved the popularity of the smaller band or artist. Some music video have gained bands a great amount of attention or even sometimes have become bigger than the artist. An example of this in the music video for OK Go - 'Here It Goes Again'.

This video was very famous as the idea for the video is very simple yet original. This video features the members of OK Go doing a dance routine on treadmills. This music video currently has 50 million views on Youtube and it was shown on VH1's Top 20 Countdown in the dame week. The music video won the award 2007 Grammy Awards for the Best Short Form Music Video.
