For most of the shots, we used the mono pod instead of the tripod, as I felt that using the tripod for every scene makes the shots feels very repetitive. The mono pod allows there to be a steady movement instead of a shot being completely static. The mono pod is a better alternative of just using the camera as handheld being the mono pod is weighed in a way where it allows a more fluent shot to be made instead of using a handheld method, which can be very unstable and looks less professional.

First Attempt of Filming
For our first attempt of filming for our music video we began filming at my house, to get the early shots of the human waking up and getting ready to leave the house. Even though this is not how the music video will start, we chose to not film in chronological order as the conditions were not right to begin filming the intro to the music video. We started by filming the human getting out of bed and getting dressed. There is a particularly challenging shot we did where the human walks into the wardrobe and walks out in one continuous shot, with Tom (human) walking out the wardrobe wearing different closes as he walked in with. This was done by using a tripod so that the shot stays completely still, do that when the two shots are put together, they look as if the shot is continuous. However, when we started the editing process we realised that this sequence did not work as well as we wanted it to, so we decided to refilm this sequence when we filmed for the second time.

Animatic For 'Green Eyed Monster' Music Video
This is our animatic for our music video for the song 'Green Eyed Monster'. The storyboard was drawn by Terry and he draws the introduction to our music video, the narrative and the band sequence, although very rough drawings, the storyboard still prompted our memories during filming the music video so that we was clear on what shoot we were doing at that moment. This allowed us to stay organised so that we stuck to a rough scene list.

The Origins of the Music Video
The music video orginated mainly in the 60's with The Beatles. Before the breakthrough of the music video, artists would only be seen by their fans through tv specials, films and on the radio.

Director Case Study - Jamie Thraves
Jamie Thraves is a british film director and writer. He went to Hull university and studied illustration and started making short films when he graduated. He made two films after graduated, Scratch (1991) and The Take Out (1993). He made these films using a low budget of around £5000 on each of them.
Jamie's had many successful music videos throughout his career, however he has had one music video that he is most famous for and that is the music video for 'Just' by Radiohead. (1995) This is one of Jamie's most successful videos, as well as Radiohead's most successful song. The video became more popluar than the song due to the video being very unique. It is rare that a music video features a almost cliffhanger ending, where the audience does not find out the cause of the end of the video. The video has no diegetic sound but does include subtitles to allow the audience to know what is happening.

Jamie also made another very memorable music video which is one of the best music videos of all time. The music video for 'The Scientist' by Coldplay (2003) has a very different structure, as it has a reverse narrative. In the video Coldplay's lead singer Chris Martin appears to be singing the song in normal speed walking backwards in slow motion. This means he had to learn the song backwards to be able to put this off, which took him a month. The video is also Chris Martin's girlfriend who dies towards the end of the video in a car crash. However because the story is shown in reverse this means that the car crash is the start of the story and the opening shot of the music video is the end of the story. The music video won many awards including MTV Music Video Award for Best Group Video and was nominated for Best Short Form Music Video.
Jamie Thrave's most recent music video is by a less know group called The Japanese Popstars. The song is called 'Song For Lisa', and the video is about a relatively young woman who is looking back at a day she had as a kid when she was a little girl. This revisits the places that she when that day and looks at how she has changed from past to present. At the end of the video it reveals that the woman becomes a prostitute, which is also a shook because throughout the whole video the director has tried to portray the woman as very reserved and shy, however in the final shot the girls attitude has changed and now she is almost a different person than she was throughout the rest of the video. All the video is in slow motion which I think adds to the effect of the video and makes it seem more dramatic, which is done intentionally. Jamie Thrave's focuses of the sound of the music very careful and represents a video that matches the song. I believe he does this very effectively throughout his catalogue of music videos ranging through many different genres.

Don't Go Breaking My Heart Evaluation
For further practice for our music video we had a preliminary task of creating a short music video for the song by Elton John 'Don't Go Breaking Heart'. We did this song because it is relatively easy to lip sync to. For this song one person in our group would be Kiki Dee and one would be Elton John. They would have to sing to each other in a way that it is sung in the video.
The make sure the lip syncing is as accurate as possible Tom and Terry sung the song out loud so that their mouth would move in the correct way to make it look they are actually singing the song. The two singers work together to portray a sense of emotional chemistry. The editing was relatively simple as when all the song and all three angles were synced together that all that we needed to do was cut the three clips between all the different angles.

Vox Pop Evaluation
For our music video we had to make a vox pop where we would ask people different questions about music videos. We did this to gather information so that when we begin to create our music video was can take different opinions into consideration to form ideas that can appeal to the widest possible audience. A vox pop is a good way to gather information because by using a variety of people in our vox pop we can receive un-biased views on music videos.
To begin our vox pop we made a introduction to show what we would be interviewing in the video. We then recorded myself asking all the questions. The we followed by recorded one at a time the responses from the people we interviewed. In the editing stage we would cut them so the presenter asks the question and then all the responds would follow. For the interviews we used to boom mic for the first time. For this the person using it has to make sure that the mic is close enough to the person talking to get good sound but also make sure that mic is out of the camera shot. The person controlling the boom mic has a set of headphones connected to the camera so that they can hear the sound from the boom mic. The sound from the mic is recorded by the camera is auto syncs itself up with the footage.
In the editing stage we started of as always capturing all the footage from the cameras into Final Cut Express, once the capturing is finished then we could start editing all the clips together to put the in order. In vox pops the presenter asks the question one and then all of the responses follow. So in final cut we had to cut each individual answer from each person interviewed and then place all of the answers to a question with the presenter answering the question. Once we had finished this we then render the video into QuickTime then upload onto Youtube.
There are some minor things that we could have done better with our vox pop, a couple of times in the vox pop the boom mic would become visible in the shot. This is a minor fault but can definitely be corrected when it comes to using the boom mic again. Also, we should allow five seconds after pressing record before asking or answering questions, this way the beginning of a question or answer will not be cut off.

- A relationship between lyrics and what is on screen
- A relationship between music and visuals
- The demands of the record label will include the need for lots of close ups of the artist
- There is a frequently reference to the notion of looking and particularly at half naked women
- Often an intertextual reference

Brainstorming
To come up with ideas for our music video we made a quick brainstorm on a piece of A3 paper so that we could develop on our ideas to eventually come up with a final idea for our video. We especially focused on the title of our song 'Green Eyed Monster', as we thought our music video could include some sort of monster. Our first idea was to make a spoof of the popular TV show Catfish which featured a wolf that was looking for a female wolf online but ends up being 'Catfished' when he goes to meet her and she ends up being a human. We then came up with the idea of basing our music video on the popular fairytale 'Little Red Riding Hood'. Since in the fairytale features a werewolf as the villain in the story. So we decided to have the wolf as the main character as a story of him searching for love when he is a human but the girl doesn't know he's a werewolf. He falls in love with a girl as a human and look to have a good relationship with each other, then right at the end of the video he will begin to turn into a werewolf which scares the girl as she runs away from him.

Song Lyrics - 1984 Green Eyed Monster
1984 - Green-Eyed Monster (Lyrics)
oohohh
aah
..
What is his name? Where is he from?
Why is he talking to you for so long?
is he a friend on just an acquaintance?
..
Why is he looking so deep in your eyes?
I'm sure the stories his telling are lies,
and why do have, to laugh so much with him?
..
It's another attack of the green-eyed monster,
while i'm looking for you, wondering where you are.
Does anybody know..
that i'm with you?
While you chat, chat, chat.
To all the boys and that.
Take a deep breath, calm down.
..
So why has he texted and got your number?
Why does he say, and does her another?
Is he your friend, or something suspicious?
Haven't you get any friends who are Ladies?
All the men of all ages.
Why do you have, to be so close to them?
..
It's another attack of the green-eyed monster,
while i'm looking for you, wondering where you are.
Does anybody know..
that i'm with you?
While you chat, chat, chat.
To all the boys and that.
Take a deep breath, calm down.1984 - Green-Eyed Monster (

Using Our Chosen Song
Our chosen song is called 'Green Eyed Monster' by 1984. We gained access to the song through the website 'www.unsigned.com'. The band have uploaded their song onto here so that they can gain more recognition from people that would hopefully get them signed to become more popular. We have contacted the band via emial to try get permission to use the song many times, however we have had no reply from them and it has been many weeks. A pass group of students from our school have used the song a few years ago so they have providing permission for that same song before. So we believe that the band may not be together or making music anymore. So we decided to still use their song as we think that we can make a good original music video for this song. As the song is non copyrighted there song be no issues with using it for our music video when we upload the song unto youtube.
Focus Group On Our Target Audience - Evaluation
To find out feedback from our ideas for our music video we carried out a focus group so that we could discuss ideas with people that fit into our target audience of an age group of roughly 14-25 year olds. This demographic is based on the genre of music which is alternative indie rock, which we believe appeals to the age range of the demographic that we have chosen. To gain feedback, we introduced our ideas to some students and then discussed what they thought about our ideas. After discussing our three initial ideas, it was clear that the students where more in favour of our idea one, which in the idea about the spin on the childhood story Little Red Riding Hood. This idea is the one which we felt would work most with the genre of song that we have chosen to use. So from this feedback we have decided to use the Little Red Riding Hood idea for our music video. This means that we can get started on properly planning and then begin to film for our music video.

Finding Our Chosen Song
To find our chosen song we used a website called unsigned.com. This website allows unsigned small artists to upload their music to the website to hopefully get noticed or are able to get as much people listening to our music as possible. The song is by a band called 1984, and the song is called 'Green Eyed Monster'. We realised that our first chosen song would not be suitable for the type of video that we wanted to create, so while further looking we found this song and we believe that due to the songs upbeat indie we can make a good music video that compliments the sound of the song.
Record Labels - Major/Independent
A Record label is a trademark that is used when associating theirselves with music and music videos. a record label markets the song and artist and assists them with all the aspects of the process of making a song or album, such as the production, distribution, marketing and promotion. Record labels have the financial capabilities to fund all the aspects of the artist to try and make them as successful as possible to make more money. Record labels also enforce copyright on the artists songs, music videos etc. In recent times copyright is stronger than ever as it is very easy to download artists music for free and upload their music to sites like Youtube.

Record labels can be a variety of different sizes, their are independent labels, small labels or mini labels, and then major labels. The three main major record labels are Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and Warner bros Music Group. These are the biggest Major Record labels and they dominant the music industry.
There are also Major independent labels. These labels are the biggest of the independant records and are owned by the major labels. The main major independent record labels are Columbia, Island, Virgin, RCA and Syco. These labels associate wth a small number of acts by focus is detal on these acts.

Purpose of a Music Promo
A music video is mainly used to advertise the single that the music video is for. By having a music video the single can become more popular mainly through online social websites such as Youtube and Vimeo. Many mainstream artists now have their music videos featured on Vevo. Vevo is a music video website who also show their videos mainly through Youtube. Vevo music videos get some of the highest amount of views of any Youtube video and they are regular shown on the home screen of Youtube, allowing most people that go on the Youtube site to be able to see the music video, making it available to see from a very broad audience, to gain more popularity for the song.
For smaller artists/bands, by making a music video this has sometimes greatly improved the popularity of the smaller band or artist. Some music video have gained bands a great amount of attention or even sometimes have become bigger than the artist. An example of this in the music video for OK Go - 'Here It Goes Again'.
This video was very famous as the idea for the video is very simple yet original. This video features the members of OK Go doing a dance routine on treadmills. This music video currently has 50 million views on Youtube and it was shown on VH1's Top 20 Countdown in the dame week. The music video won the award 2007 Grammy Awards for the Best Short Form Music Video.

Finding The Right Music
For our music video we need to select a song that is non copyright, this means that we can use the music without getting into problems with the record label and artist. For this there are multiple websites that we could use to do this. A good site that only presents non copyright music is www.unsigned.com. this site is great for finding non copyright music and it allows you to contact the artist of the song to ask for permission to use the song. This is done by email straight to the artist or their record label.
Another website that is good for finding music is 8tracks.com. This website is different to unsigned.com because it shows both copyright and now copyright music, but on 8tracks you can look at specific music genres in fine detail, so you can find a fine genre of music that is fitting to the type of music that you want to use for your music video. This website will show you a range of songs in a playlist that match the specific types of music that you have searched for. For example if a person searches for songs in the hip hop genre, it then goes into sub genres so you can find a more specific type of hip hop.
A final website that is also very good for finding music is Soundcloud.com. Soundcloud is a social music website that allows any user to upload their music unto to the website, meaning that there is a vast amount of music on the site that can be listened to and downloaded straight from the site free of charge. If someone wants to use another users or artists music on this site, they can contact the artist of that music straight through this website via direct messages.
When contacting the artist for permission to use a song, the artist or record label will need to know why you want to use that song, and they will also want to know is this song or video going to be posted anywhere that can be seen publicly, such as on Youtube. If the person only wants to use the track privately then the artist or record label will normally have no problem with this. However is the song is going to be posted on the internet this means that anyone can steal the track and the artist or record label will receive no revenue from it, meaning they make no profit.
An example of a email that you would send to an artist is;
'Hello, we have a project in A-Level media studies to create a music video, and we like this song and we are interested in using it for our music video. With this music video we will be showing it in our class but we will also be posting it on youtube so that the examiners can mark it. I have emailed you to ask for possible permission to use your song in our music video and we would be very grateful if you allowed us to use this song.'

Non - Copyright music
Copyright music is music that is made by a artist or person, that is regulated so that other people cannot copy, distribute, change or sell that piece of music. By copyrighting this piece of music, it is clear that only the creator has permission to use that music and others have to ask for permission to use that sound clip. The copyright is usually put in place by the record label to not allow people to use the song to make a profit.
Non copyright music is music that is created by artists that have not placed copyright onto their music, allowing other people to use their music as long as the artist receives permission from the person trying to use the track, this way the person trying to use the track cannot get in trouble for using a track that has copyright on it. A person can get in to trouble for using a track has copyright laws on it, in the UK using copyright can only lead to a civil matter, instead of in the USA using copyright music can lead to a criminal matter. this is where an individual can be prosecuted.

Music Video Analysis : Joey Bada$$ - Waves
Waves is a single by Joey Bada$$ released in 2012. Although a video full of pure cinematography, the cinematography does show a story of a 17 year old teenager, how by day is a normal teenager, who goes through everyday activities of a teenager such as school and hanging out with friends. The video clearly shows that Joey is experiencing the same emotions as normal teenagers such as boredom in school and happiness when hanging around with friends. But as night Joey is a famous rapper who is performing at a concert infront of fans. This music plays a true story as this is what Joey's life is like at this moment with balancing school with his rap career. Some of the scenes match in time the lyrics of the song, presenting this video and song as a story. The cinematography in this video is all shot in new york boroughs such as Brooklyn and Queens which is show in the music video when Joey and his friends are on the subway. I believe the style and flow of the video matches the style and flow of the song as being a very chilled song. In many parts of the video the shots have been shot in slow motion, and others and shot in real time, might may represent slower and faster parts of Joey's life.
